About Dr. Feldenkrais

Russian born Moshe Feldenkrais (1904 -1984) was a mechanical engineer and physicist. While at the Sorbonne, where he received his doctorate, he co-authored and published numerous research papers with Nobel Prize winner Frederic Joliot-Curie. Though his background was extensively grounded in the sciences, he also studied the martial arts, and he was the first European to receive a black belt in Judo. It was while suffering from a debilitating knee injury that he used his knowledge of physics, biomechanics, Judo, human development and psychology to create the method that bears his name. Among his many students were Margaret Mead, Yehudi Menuhin, Helen Hayes and Julius Erving.
